Root canal treatment (endodontics) is a dental procedure used to treat infection inside a tooth caused by bacteria due to tooth decay, deep/leaking fillings, and damage to teeth due to trauma.
Root canal treatment will get rid of toothache caused by these bacteria. The treatment is not painful and can save a tooth that might otherwise have to be removed completely.
Before having root canal treatment, you’ll usually be given a local anaesthetic. This means the procedure should be painless and no more unpleasant than having a filling.
Your dentist will use a drill to open your tooth through the crown of the tooth, to access the pulp region where infected pulp will be removed. This is done using a series of fine instruments and with a disinfectant solution to ensure the root canal of the tooth is clear of bacteria. This process may take a few appointments, the more canals a tooth has the longer it may take, teeth further to the back (molars and premolars) tend to have more canals than teeth at the front (incisors and canines).
After the root canals have been cleaned and bacteria have been removed, the root canal is filled and the tooth is sealed with a filling or crown. In most cases, the inflamed tissue near the tooth will heal naturally.
Root canal treatment is usually successful. In about 9 out of 10 cases, a tooth can survive for up to 10 years after root canal treatment.
The infections will be treated with root canal treatment, which might have caused severe health issues.
It deals with the exposed nerves and infections in the pulp and eliminates the pain.
It keeps the teeth safe and healthy by preventing more damage from being caused.
It becomes difficult for people to smile if they have broken or decaying teeth. Thus, the treatment helps bring back the smile.
