How often do I need to visit the dentist?

We advise as a rule of thumb that routine check up is done every 6 months, every patient is unique thus the frequency of the check up will be tailored to you after the dentist has checked your oral health.

Do I need to have scaling done routinely if I clean my teeth well?

Scaling done by the dentist gets rid of any tartar/calculus deposits that will not be able to be removed just with daily brushing. It is important that these deposits are removed to ensure optimum gum health

Are composite (white) fillings as strong as amalgam (metal) fillings?

With the advancement of dental technology, white composite fillings are just as if not stronger than amalgam fillings. And with the added benefit that it is white so it won’t be noticeable

Can I wait and not have a filling if my cavity is small?

We advise to have any cavity filled as soon as it is found. Any cavity regardless of the size will progress to become bigger and more serious, which will lead to more pain/infection. If a cavity is left for too long, the dentist may not be able to fill the cavity with just a filling and may to either carry out root canal treatment or extraction of the diseased tooth.

What is the difference between normal scaling and polishing vs EMS AIRFLOW® Dental Spa?

Teeth Whitening

What does the procedure involve?

Dentists will clean your teeth and apply a gel which protects your gum. Whitening gel will be placed on the teeth surfaces for 10-15 minutes under blue light or laser. Normally up to 3 cycles of teeth whitening can be done.

What materials do you use for teeth whitening?

Hydrogen peroxide is the main active ingredient of tooth whitening. Dentists use higher concentration of active ingredients when doing chairside whitening, therefore achieving more predictable and long-lasting results.

Can pregnant mothers or children do teeth whitening?

It is normally not advisable as there is not much research regarding safety concern of bleaching materials.

How long does teeth whitening last?

Bear in mind that teeth whitening is not permanent, it can last from months and up to 3 years, depending on lifestyle & necessary precautions.

Is home-kit whitening the same as chairside whitening?

The concentration of the bleaching products are different, the effect of chairside whitening is more apparent. However, home-kit whitening can be used as a maintenance phase after chairside whitening.

What should I expect after the treatment?

Generally, after 30-60 minutes of teeth whitening, teeth can be brightened to a few shades lighter.

Invisalign / Clear Correct

Are clear aligners with Invisalign / Clear Correct safe?

Clear aligner treatment is discrete, comfortable, convenient and it is safe to use. We partnered with Invisalign and Clear Correct which are well known in the industry to provide the best treatment outcome.

Who can wear these clear aligners?

Clear aligners are typically prescribed for people aged 12 and older, pregnant women who have problematic teeth. To determine eligibility for this treatment, your dentist will take a physical and dental history before starting treatment.

How does clear aligners feel?

Unlike Metal braces, invisalign looks completely natural once they’re fitted and the brackets are removable, so you can eat, drink, and brush your teeth normally.

How long does treatment take?

Each person’s teeth are unique and require a different treatment plan. However, typically, aligner treatment takes approximately 18 months, but it can sometimes be longer if there are some complications with the treatment. You will likely need two office visits each month for the entire treatment, and each visit will last around two hours.

How Long Will I Have Braces?

Treatment time depends on many factors, such as the difficulty of the case. It can range from six months to a few years.

Do Braces Hurt?

You may feel a small amount of discomfort or slightly painful for a couple days as your teeth, gums, cheeks, and mouth get used to your new braces. By the end of the first week, you’ll adjust to having braces.

Will I Need To Wear A Retainer After I Get My Braces Off?

Yes! You need to wear a retainer for as long as you want straight teeth Otherwise, your teeth may shift back.

What foods are not okay to eat with braces?

We Malaysians love our food but please avoid very crispy or crunchy foods, such as nuts, chewing on ice or even very hard keropok! These can damage braces and wires, causing unnecessary repair appointments and increasing your time in treatment.

Root Canal Treatment

Will root canal treatment hurt?

Local anaesthetic will be given prior to the treatment.

Can pregnant women undergo root canal treatment?

Yes. Root canal treatment poses no risk to the mother or the developing baby.

Does root canal treatment remove my roots?

No. A root canal treatment only removes the nerves and soft tissues inside the root canal, leaving the roots and tooth intact.

How long can root canal treatment last?

Root canal treatment is usually successful. In about 9 out of 10 cases a tooth can survive for up to 10 years after root canal treatment.

Do dental crowns and bridges need to be taken out and wash ?

No, dental crown and bridges are fixed prosthesis which considered as permanently capping on your teeth.

How long do the dental crowns and bridges last for ?

The dental crown and bridges can last for a long time if they are well done associated with well trimmed teeth.

What are the material of dental crowns and bridges made of ?

They are made of porcelain or ceramic , mostly by Zirconium . This material is more strengthful and harder compared to our original tooth .

What does the procedure involve?

A smile makeover consists of a few treatments to enhance your teeth appearance. This includes teeth whitening, composite filling, porcelain veneers, crowns, recontouring of gum, and crown lengthening.

The smile makeover takes personal preferences, budget, and the person’s aesthetic goals as important guides to how the teeth are customised accordingly.

Who is a good candidate for a smile makeover?

Anyone who is not pleased with the way that their smile looks can opt for a smile makeover. The dentist will thoroughly evaluate the patient for any underlying issues before starting cosmetic treatments such a gum issues or general well being in order to come up with a treatment plan that suits the person.

What are the age limits?

There is NO age limit to getting a smile makeover. The most important requirement to proceed with smile makeover treatment is having good dental health. Most treatments done for smile makeover are suitable for patient of any age.

When is the ideal age to start whitening teeth?

It is recommended to start teeth whitening when adult teeth has fully erupted, around the age after 14 years old

How many treatments are involved?

It depends on how many aesthetic issues the patient is dealing with. A smile makeover may involve multiple fields of specialty such as orthodontics (braces), oral surgery (implants), periodontics (gum contouring) and prosthodontics (veneers and crowns).

How long will the process take?

The treatment time depends on the treatments required. A smile makeover may take up to 2 years or more in conjunction with braces treatment which on average takes up 1.5-2 years to complete.
