Dental braces straighten your teeth and correct a wide range of dental problems, such as crooked teeth, crowded teeth, gapped teeth, underbite, overbite, protruded teeth etc.
Braces (brackets) are glued directly onto the surface of the teeth, and wires that slot in the bracket exert a mild, constant pressure to shift your teeth into their proper positions over time.
(Buck Teeth)
(Misalignment)
Conventional braces consist of small brackets joined by an archwire and fastened to each tooth to gradually move your teeth into their new positions under the gentle pressure of tiny elastic bands. The pressure from these braces forces and realigns the teeth.
The self-ligating bracket utilizes sliding door technology known as “self-ligation” which allows the wire to slide back and forth within the bracket. This technology creates less friction and results in greater patient comfort.
Ceramic braces are made of translucent (clear) material. They are most popular with adult patients, due to their cosmetic appeal. They are difficult to see on the teeth unless you are very close to the patient. The latest ceramic brackets (Damon Clear) are self-ligating and eliminate the need for elastic ties which cause discolouration.
Crowded teeth are easy for plaque and food particles to become trapped between the teeth. Hard-to-reach areas in the mouth can become hotbeds for plaque and tartar, which, left unremedied, can cause tooth decay. Wearing braces aligns the teeth so they are easier to clean with a regular toothbrush and floss.
This may surprise you, but a common problem among people who suffer from alignment issues is not being able to chew their food properly due to misaligned teeth. This makes it more challenging for your stomach to digest your food. When someone wears braces, the teeth are able to close and chew correctly. This reduces how often improperly chewed food enters the stomach, reducing the frequency of intestinal distress and discomfort.
Protruding upper teeth are especially vulnerable to accidents related to sports, car crashes, accidentally falling, etc. Braces straighten teeth, which eventually helps prevent injuries from such accidents.
Unaligned teeth make it harder for people to pronounce particular sounds. The most common problems are lisps (problems forming c, z, s, t’s and the “th” sound) along with whistling. Having straightened teeth significantly improves the way you sound out words.
